On December 8, 2011, alert officials of the ZIMRA patrol team intercepted a passenger bus en-route from South Africa to Harare that had managed to subvert border controls and smuggled goods into the country.

The culprits were caught red handed after they had diverted from their route to offload the goods at a ‘secret’ location. Two taxis and two pickup trucks had been called to ferry the smuggled goods and these were also apprehended together with the bus. The smuggled goods were seized and these included plasma televisions, refrigerators, pairs of shoes and stoves, among other items.
